Job description

Pay starts at $16.37/hour+ depending on years of experience.

$4,000.00 sign-on bonus may be available for qualified candidates with a one-year work commitment, in accordance with UVA policy.

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Patient Care Technician (PCT) to join our perioperative team in the Peri Anesthesia Post-Op area. In this role, you will provide critical care to patients recovering from anesthesia, ensuring their comfort, safety, and well-being. The ideal candidate thrives in a busy environment and is committed to delivering high-quality care and support during recovery.

Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Care: Work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, focusing on quality improvement and enhanced recovery.
- Collaboration: Work closely with a skilled perioperative team dedicated to patient success.
- Personalized Care: Prioritize patient comfort and personalized care.
- Professional Growth: Take advantage of opportunities for ongoing professional development to enhance patient care skills.

Performs various patient care and administrative functions under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) in inpatient or outpatient settings.

  • Assists patients with personal care for optimal recovery during hospitalization.
  • Performs basic nursing skills delegated by an RN, following policies to promote health and wellness.
  • Ensures a safe environment and safe care delivery.
  • Performs administrative support functions.
  • Maintains necessary skills and competencies.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Position Compensation Range: $15.37 - $23.82 hourly.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent
- Experience: No experience required
- Licensure: AHA Health Care Provider BLS Certification required.
- Certification as a Nurse Aide in Virginia OR meeting one of the following criteria:
  • Successful completion of the UVa PCT Education Program or an approved equivalent.
  • Proof of at least 1 year recent experience in a similar PCT role, with successful completion of a written exam and clinical skills demonstration during a 6-month probation.
  • Passage of a nationally recognized PCT certification exam (e.g., NHA C-PCT). Present certification as verification.
OR
- Enrollment in nursing programs with clinical experience, EMT or higher certification, or nursing degree completion.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Job requires frequent bending/stooping, driving (Home Health Aide only), and lifting/pushing/pulling 20-50 lbs and over 100 lbs (Home Health Aide only). Proficient communication, auditory, and visual skills are necessary. May be exposed to chemicals, blood, body fluids, and infectious diseases.
