Job Title: Patient Care Technician (PCT)

$16.37/hour+ depending on years of experience

Pay starts at $16.37/hour+ depending on years of experience. A $4,000 sign-on bonus may be available for qualified candidates with a one-year work commitment, in accordance with UVA policy.

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Patient Care Technician (PCT) to join our PACU area. In this role, you will provide critical care to patients, ensuring their comfort, safety, and well-being. The ideal candidate thrives in a busy environment and is committed to providing the highest level of care and support during recovery.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Patient Care: Work in a fast-paced environment focusing on quality improvement and enhanced recovery.
  2. Collaboration: Work closely with a skilled perioperative team dedicated to patient success.
  3. Personalized Care: Prioritize patient comfort and personalized care.
  4. Professional Growth: Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance patient care skills.
  5. Perform patient care and administrative support functions under supervision in inpatient, outpatient, or home settings.
Additional Duties
  • Assist patients with personal care as needed for optimal recovery.
  • Perform basic nursing skills delegated by an RN, in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Ensure a safe environment and safe delivery of care.
  • Perform administrative support functions.
  • Maintain necessary skills and competencies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Position Compensation Range

$15.37 - $23.82 Hourly

Minimum Requirements
  • Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent
  • Experience: No experience required
  • Licensure: AHA BLS Certification required
  • Must meet one of the following criteria:
  1. Certified Nurse Aide in Virginia or completion of an approved PCT program, or
  2. At least 1 year recent experience in a similar PCT role, with successful completion of a written exam and clinical skills demonstration during a 6-month probation, or
  3. Passage of a nationally recognized PCT certification exam (e.g., NHA-C-PCT) with verification.
  • OR meet one of the following:
  1. Enrolled student nurses who completed Medical/Surgical clinical and didactic coursework, or
  2. EMT or higher certification, with completion of UVA PCT Course within 6 months, or
  3. Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
Physical Demands

Frequent bending/stooping, driving (Home Health Aide only), proficient communication, ability to lift/push/pull 20-50 lbs (and >100 lbs for Home Health Aide). May be exposed to chemicals, blood, body fluids, and infectious diseases.
