Functions as part of the dialysis healthcare team in providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse, complying with policies, procedures, and regulations. Responsible for setup and operation of hemodialysis machines, maintaining a safe environment, and supporting quality improvement activities.
Education: Assist in providing patient-specific education on adequacy measures, disease process, and access.
Treatment: Welcome patients, evaluate vascular access, perform cannulation, administer heparin, obtain vital signs, initiate and monitor dialysis, evaluate response, document, and ensure safety measures. Assist with lab specimen collection and infection control.
Assist in training direct care staff under supervision of a nurse.
Follow policies, maintain a safe environment, and ensure cleanliness and readiness of treatment areas.
Participate in CQI activities, document treatment data accurately, prepare charts, and manage lab specimens.
Support infection control practices, participate in audits, and educate patients and families.
Follow new patients, coordinate care, and assist with home dialysis education and supply management.
Includes desk work, patient interaction, travel between facilities, and physical tasks such as lifting and assisting patients.
High School diploma or G.E.D., CMS-approved certification, and appropriate state licensure. Demonstrated commitment to values and customer service.
Preferred hospital or related care experience. Successful completion of dialysis training and CPR certification required.
