Patient Care Tech (PCT)

Department: Cardiac Telemetry

Work hours: PRN

Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Southwest Fort Worth is a 222-bed full-service facility that includes surgical and imaging services, a 24-hour emergency department, orthopedics and sports therapy, adult critical care, and a Level III neonatal intensive care unit. The hospital is Magnet-designated, a designated UnitedHealth Premium Surgical Spine specialty center and has earned Quality Respiratory Care Recognition from the AARC.

Here’s What You Need:

  1. H.S. Diploma or Equivalent Required.
  2. Other - CLIAFE Must comply with CLIA regulations regarding foreign education equivalency Required.
  3. PCT Training Program TX CNA, NHA, NAHP, NCCT, accredited community college program or a THR approved program. Not required to maintain certification when applicable after hire. Upon Hire Required.
  4. EMT - Emergency Medical Technician Military experience with medical training equivalent (Equivalent to EMT-B) Upon Hire Required.
  5. Other Nursing student who has completed fundamentals or foreign nurse degree program Upon Hire Required.
  6. Other 1 year of applicable experience in lieu of an active and approved certification. Upon Hire Required.
  7. BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly Required.
  8. CPI - Crisis Prevention Intervention Training Maintained Annually 90 Days Required.
  9. Possesses organizational skills to function in a fast-paced work environment, positive interpersonal skills, and good verbal and written communication skills.

What You Will Do

  1. Provides assistance to patient according to plan of care.
  2. Collects patient data, identifies, and reports significant findings to nurse.
  3. Assists in admission/transfer/discharge.
  4. Provides and revises patient activities of daily living based on patient/family preferences.
  5. Performs technical procedures safely and proficiently.
  6. Takes action to reduce or eliminate patient risk.
  7. Enters orders into computer or manual system if applicable.
  8. Documents accurately and appropriately.
  9. In collaboration/consultation with the nurse, adapts care to reflect patient population.
  10. In collaboration/consultation with nurse, incorporates cultural/religious needs and beliefs into delivery of care.
  11. Keeps patient environment clean and maintains safe environment.
  12. Anticipates patient/family and visitor needs and takes action to meet those needs and rounds as appropriate.
  13. Uses Professional Practice Model philosophy to work in partnership with patients, families, physicians, peers, and all other disciplines.
  14. Demonstrates adaptability and flexibility to changes in schedule and/or workload assignment necessary to meet changing needs of the individual patient or unit.
  15. Makes new team members feel welcome and offers assistance with orientation of new employees.
  16. Acceptable use of interpersonal relationship skills and communication with patients, families, co-workers, physicians, all disciplines, and other customers.
  17. Organizes workload and effectively collaborates with nursing to prioritize care.
  18. Maintains and enhances patient care skills.
  19. Seeks assistance and supervision when performing unfamiliar tasks.
  20. Serves as a patient advocate.
  21. Complies with personnel policies.
  22. Communicates per department expectations.
  23. Recognizes and promptly communicates ethical and legal concerns through established channels of communication.
  24. Assists in the identification of ineffective and costly processes and takes action to improve them.
  25. Participates in the process improvement activities within the department/hospital.
  26. Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals.
