Job description

University of Maryland Medical System

Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse and in accordance with the Nursing Care Plan, performs delegated competency-validated patient care functions and applies technical skills of a limited, uncomplicated nature. Fulfillment of the job duties requires access to medication storage areas.

Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Current Maryland state certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) required
  • No previous experience required; previous direct patient care experience in a healthcare facility preferred
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to utilize universal safety precautions and act appropriately in emergency situations
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served, including understanding growth and development over the lifespan, assessing data relevant to patient needs, and following department policies and procedures
  • Highly effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills with patients, visitors, and healthcare team members to establish working relationships that foster optimal patient care
Patient Safety
  • Ensures patient safety during job performance and participates in safety initiatives
  • Takes action to correct observed risks to patient safety
  • Reports adverse events and near misses to management
  • Identifies potential risks in processes, procedures, or devices and communicates them appropriately

Compensation

Pay Range: $17.17 - $24.04
