Purpose and Scope

As part of the dialysis healthcare team, the Patient Care Technician (PCT) provides safe and effective dialysis therapy under the supervision of a licensed nurse, complying with organizational policies and regulations. Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Patient-Related
  • Assist in patient education regarding adequacy measures, disease process, and access.
  • Evaluate vascular access, perform cannulation, administer heparin as delegated, and monitor patient response.
  • Obtain vital signs, weights, and perform pre/post-treatment assessments.
  • Initiate, monitor, and discontinue dialysis treatments, ensuring safety protocols are followed.

Staff and Communication
