PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

Functions as part of the dialysis health care team in providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse in accordance with organization policies, procedures, and training, and in compliance with regulations set forth by the corporation, state, and federal agencies. Responsible for the setup and operation of hemodialysis machines. Assist in maintaining a safe and clean working environment. Supports the organization’s commitment to the Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and CQI activities, including those related to patient satisfaction, and actively participates in process improvement activities that help achieve the organization’s Quality Enhancement Goals (QEP).

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Patient Related
Education:
  • Assist healthcare team members in providing patient-specific education regarding adequacy measures such as Online Clearance Monitoring (OLC), Adequacy Monitoring Program (AMP), Urea Kinetic Modeling (UKM), and disease process/access.
Treatment:
  • Welcome patients, inquire about their wellbeing, evaluate vascular access, perform cannulation, administer heparin as delegated or permitted by law, obtain vital signs and weight pre- and post-treatment, initiate dialysis, monitor response, and document all procedures accurately.
Staff Related
  • Assist in training direct care staff under supervision of a nurse.
Education/Communication:
  • Follow all policies, maintain environment safety and cleanliness, disinfect equipment, and ensure proper setup and alarm testing of dialysis machines.
Record Keeping:
  • Participate in CQI activities, enter treatment data accurately, review treatment sheets, prepare patient charts, and ensure proper lab specimen collection and documentation.
Infection Control:
  • Support infection control practices, participate in audits, and educate patients and families as permitted.
Transitional Care Unit:
  • Follow newly admitted patients, reinforce education, coordinate care, and assist with transition to home dialysis options.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
  • Describe physical requirements, including lifting, standing, and environmental factors, with accommodations for disabilities.
Education and Licenses:
  • High school diploma or G.E.D., required certifications, licensure, and demonstrated organizational commitment.
Experience and Skills:
  • Preferred prior patient care experience; successful completion of dialysis training and CPR certification required.

Rate of pay: $19.00 - $26.91 hourly. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, 401(k), paid time off, parental leave. This job is active and accepting applications.
