Purpose and Scope

Supports FMCNA’s mission, vision, and core values. Adheres to the FMCNA Compliance Program, including all regulatory and policy requirements.

Functions as part of the hemodialysis healthcare team, providing safe and effective dialysis therapy under supervision, in compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations. Responsible for setup and operation of hemodialysis machines, maintaining a safe environment, and supporting quality improvement activities.

Duties and Activities

Customer Service

• Provide outstanding customer service to all patients and staff, maintaining effective communication and resolving issues promptly.

Patient Care

• Assist in patient education regarding dialysis adequacy measures and disease process.
• Welcome patients, monitor well-being, evaluate vascular access, obtain vital signs, and report abnormalities.
• Perform vascular access cannulation, administer Heparin as delegated, initiate and terminate dialysis treatment, monitor patient response, and document all procedures accurately.

Maintenance and Technical

• Maintain a clean and safe environment, disinfect equipment, and prepare for treatments.

Clerical and Administrative

• Participate in CQI activities, document treatment data, prepare charts, and handle lab specimen collection and processing.

Additional Duties

• Perform other assigned tasks as needed.

Home Program Support (if applicable)

• Assist with home dialysis procedures, patient education, supply management, and home visit support under supervision.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

Includes lifting, standing, bending, and working with infectious materials. Travel between facilities and community locations may be required. Must pass Ishihara’s Color Blindness test.

Education and Experience

• CMS-approved certification or high school diploma with certification within required timelines.
• Preferred prior patient care experience; completion of dialysis training and CPR certification required.
