Description

Summary: Provides assistance with patient care activities and other unit tasks under the supervision of licensed professional staff and as directed by the manager.

Responsibilities:

  1. Provides physical care to assigned patients and performs technical skills such as point of care (POC) testing.
  2. Implements nursing orders promptly and understands their purpose.
  3. Follows policies and procedures for patient care activities, including use of unit-specific equipment.
  4. Provides patient comfort through positioning, bathing, linen management, and personal article placement with courtesy.
  5. Ensures patient safety via preventative measures like side rails, restraints, alarms, and hourly rounding.
  6. Enters data into the computer system accurately.
  7. Communicates patient and visitor information and observations appropriately.
  8. Provides age-appropriate care, demonstrating knowledge of growth and development principles.
  9. Reports and records changes in patient condition or behavior, including unusual reactions.
  10. Responds to patient care priorities promptly and exercises good judgment.
  11. Maintains effective relationships with healthcare team members, patients, and families.
  12. Maintains a safe, clean, and well-stocked work environment, assisting with equipment upkeep.
  13. Works as a Safety Attendant/Patient Sitter to ensure patient safety, following standards of service excellence.
  14. Attends staff meetings and reviews all meeting minutes.
  15. Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) certification competency.
  16. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the role.
  17. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Other Information: This position requires a minimum of a High School Diploma and 0-6 months of related experience. Experience in a hospital environment is preferred but not required. Active CNA certification is preferred. BLS/CPR certification is required within 90 days of start or upon completing orientation, whichever comes first.

Working Conditions:

  • Physical Effort: Very heavy; may exert up to 50 lbs.
  • Physical Environment: Exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
