Patient Care Technician - Ortho Surgery - Rotating - PRN

The Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery Unit comprises two units: the Orthopaedic Trauma Unit and the Joint Restoration Unit. We treat general and progressive care patients with diagnoses such as knee/hip replacements, spinal surgeries, infected joints, and amputations. We also care for patients with injuries from motor vehicle accidents, falls, or other traumatic incidents. We offer extensive training for new graduates and tailored orientation for experienced nurses. Expand your skills with external fixators, traction, drains, wound care, and more. The Patient Care Technician provides direct, age-specific care to patients based on medical orders and the plan of care, under the supervision of RNs or licensed practitioners.

Essential Job functions:

  1. Provide safe and appropriate care to patients, monitoring conditions and updating the healthcare team.
  2. Assist with personal hygiene, comfort, and safety needs of patients, with or without complications.
  3. Follow nursing and medical care plans, adhering to hospital policies.
  4. Maintain a safe, clean, and stocked clinical environment.
  5. Ensure supplies, equipment, and environment promote quality patient care.
  6. Contribute to positive patient experiences by accurate identification and observation, reporting any concerns.
  7. Record patient information such as vital signs, intake/output, and other data per policy.
  8. Assist in collecting specimens for tests.
  9. Attend mandatory trainings and adhere to online requirements.
  10. Participate in patient safety initiatives.
  11. Establish effective rapport with patients, visitors, and staff, demonstrating sensitivity and prompt responses.
  12. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Patient Population:

Provide equitable care tailored to the age groups served, from neonates to geriatrics, understanding growth and development principles.

Employment Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Preferred: Certified Nursing Assistant certification.

Licensure/Certification:

AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Certification or completion of a healthcare-related program or experience in a healthcare environment.

OR

Completion of foundational nursing courses with clinical rotations.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of patient data collection and documentation.
  • Ability to assist with hygiene, feeding, mobility, and provide compassionate care.
  • Accountability and ability to wear PPE as needed.

Demonstrates commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Working Conditions:

  • High stress and fluctuating workloads.
  • Potential exposure to physical altercations, verbal abuse, noise, bright lights, and biological hazards.

*Universal precautions and infection control policies are required.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift, push, and carry up to 100 lbs., and perform various physical activities.

Additional Physical and Hazard Information:

Manual dexterity, shift work, and exposure to hazards such as chemicals and moving parts.

Strong reasoning, problem-solving, hearing, speaking, reading, and emotional resilience required.
