Job summary

Boone Hospital Center in Missouri seeks a patient care technician to support nurses by providing direct patient care and maintaining a safe environment. You will assist with activities of daily living, monitor vital signs, document care, and help educate patients and families.

You may perform phlebotomy, I&O, and 1:1 safety sitter duties as needed. Weekend and shift premium opportunities are available.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a nursing program with fundamentals within 90 days.
• Past candidate who failed licensure exams in the last 3 years.
• Certified Nursing Assistant certification required.
• Current CNA registration in another state per 42 CFR 483.151/152.
• Experience as nurse assistant/EMT/surgical technician within last 3 years.
• Completion of a patient care technician or UAP training program within 3 years.
• Nursing program completed outside the U.S. awaiting licensure.
• Certification as a patient care technician.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under nurse supervision, promoting patient-family centered care.
• Assist with ADLs, vital signs, I&O, fall and pressure ulcer prevention, foley care, phlebotomy or point-of-care testing.
• Collect clinical data and report changes in patient status to the nurse.
• Assist nurse with patient and family education.
• Document all patient care activities and ensure supplies/equipment availability.
• Participate in safety, quality and regulatory compliance activities.
• Engage in professional development and lifelong learning; act as 1:1 patient safety sitter as needed.
• This is a safety-sensitive position requiring constant alertness.

Nursing program enrollment

Job Summary

Provides direct patient care to support the licensed professional nurses responsible for a team of patients to ensure a safe environment for patients by reducing risk of harm. Collects vital information on the patient and reports such to the RN which contributes to the overall assessment of each patient and any changes to a patient's condition.

Job Responsibilities

• Implements direct patient care under the supervision of the nurse, promoting patient and family centered care in a healing environment.
• Administers or assists patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADL), performs vital signs (VS), intake and output (I&O), fall and pressure ulcer prevention measures, foley care, phlebotomy, or point of care testing as requested.
• Collects clinical data and information on patients, and reports changes in patient status to the nurse.
• Assists nurse with patient and family education.
• Documents all patient care activities provided.
• Ensures availability of supplies and equipment to meet each patient’s needs.
• Participates in activities that promote safety, quality and regulatory compliance.
• Participates in professional development and lifelong learning, as well as acting as 1:1 patient safety sitter as necessary.
• Boone Health has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.

Minimum Qualifications

• Is enrolled in a professional or practical nursing education program and has or will complete within ninety (90) days a fundamentals of nursing course
• Was a professional nursing or practical nursing licensure candidate who failed to pass the state licensure examinations in the past three (3) years
• Is certified as a nursing assistant
• Has documentation of current registration as a certified nursing assistant in another state that meets the requirements listed in 42 CFR 483.151 and 483.152
• Has documented experience as a nurse assistant, emergency medical technician, or surgical technician in the past three (3) years
• Has proof of completion of a patient care technician training program which meets the curriculum requirements of this rule or UAP training program in Missouri or another state which meets the requirements of this rule within the last three (3) years
• Has completed a professional or licensed practical nursing program outside the United States and is awaiting the licensure examination in this country
• Has proof of certification as a patient care technician
