UPMC Shadyside - Casual Patient Care Technician

UPMC Shadyside is seeking a casual Patient Care Technician to join their team! This weekday-only position offers daylight hours between 4:30 AM and 8:00 PM, with no weekends, holidays, or on-call responsibilities.

Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title and salary from the career ladder, based on their individual experience and education.

Responsibilities:

1. Support departmental changes and initiatives, view problems as challenges, and contribute to quality projects.
2. Perform nursing assistant duties including ADLs (bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating, turning, and repositioning patients), point of care testing (blood glucose), weights, vital signs, I&O, telemetry monitoring, and infection prevention measures. Achieve all competencies.
3. Report equipment malfunctions, communicate effectively with departments, and maintain respectful relationships. Participate in unit activities like responding to call lights, passing meals, and transporting patients.
4. Receive and act on feedback, identify learning needs, and participate in self-review. Seek assistance for planning and prioritizing tasks.
5. Communicate clearly with the healthcare team, understand cultural diversity and workplace safety, and develop productive relationships. Demonstrate accountability, enthusiasm, and motivation.
6. Assist with patient care procedures and activities of daily living, support physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies, and report patient status changes to RNs.
7. Provide patient and family instruction under RN supervision, and apply/remove patient restraints as per protocol.
8. Follow all policies related to patient care and hospital information, adhere to safety policies, and practice standard precautions.
9. Document patient information accurately, complete clerical tasks, and perform duties efficiently.
10. Meet system-wide competencies and behaviors.
11. Perform other duties as assigned.
12. Achieve and maintain competency in advanced skills such as phlebotomy, IV removal, Foley catheter removal, basic arrhythmia, 12-lead EKG, and NG tube management, based on departmental needs.
