Patient Care Technician (Nights) - Heart and Kidney Unit - (2500018X)
Description
In collaboration with the multidisciplinary healthcare team, under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, perform basic nursing care activities, assist in maintaining a safe, clean, stocked patient care environment, support staff, and help manage patient flow.
Qualifications
- Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED (Required)
- Certifications: C.N.A, PCT, or EMT Certification (Required)
- Minimum Work Experience: 1 year experience in a healthcare setting preferred; completion of one semester clinical at an accredited nursing school or military corpsman training (Preferred)
- Skills/Knowledge: Basic computer skills, knowledge of aseptic technique, basic math skills, human relations, and interpersonal skills
- Licenses and Certifications: Patient Care Technician (CPCT), CNA, or EMT (Required); BLS for Healthcare Providers (Required)
Functional Accountabilities
Patient Services - Admission
- Orient families to call lights, monitors, and unit procedures
- Set up monitors and alarms
- Perform vital signs, height, weight, and head circumference measurements
Patient Services - Daily Living
- Assist with ADLs such as bathing, skin care, mouth, and peri-care
- Ensure proper nutrition as ordered
- Care for feeding tubes and assist with feeding
- Apply skin creams as directed
- Collect cultures and samples
- Recognize and report pain and skin breakdown
- Assist with trach care, EVDs, central line dressings, cast, traction care, and end-of-life care
- Prepare rooms for admission/discharge and maintain a tidy environment
- Manage equipment and supplies, monitor deviations, and follow guidelines for professional dress code
Infection Control
- Care for isolation patients
- Adhere to hand hygiene protocols
- Clean equipment after use
Documentation
- Accurately document in nursing database, flow sheets, and vital signs
- Notify the charge nurse of relevant findings
Communication/Professionalism
- Communicate effectively with team members, report changes, and participate in shift reports
- Maintain professional relationships with patients and families
- Resolve conflicts appropriately and support family-centered care
- Notify RN when leaving or returning to the unit
- Demonstrate non-judgmental behavior

- Stay informed about unit issues and participate in decision-making
Safety
- Speak up about unsafe behaviors, verify information, and act decisively in uncertain situations

Additional Details
Location: Washington, DC at CN Hospital, Main Campus
Position: Full-Time, Night Shift, 36 hours/week with EOW schedule
Salary Range: $43,160 - $85,259.20
