UPMC Hamot Women's Hospital is hiring a Patient Care Technician to join the Mom-Baby Unit!

1 year of previous patient care experience required.

Title and Salary will be determined based upon education and experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists with patient care, procedures, and activities of daily living (ADLs).Supports physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies.
  • Reports patient status changes and provides feedback to the RN.
  • Performs core nursing assistant tasks: blood glucose, weights, vital signs, I&O, specimen collection, Foley care.
  • Competent in at least four advanced tasks: phlebotomy, 12-lead EKG, simple dressings, Foley/IV catheter removal, bladder scan, straight catheter, point-of-care testing.Reports equipment malfunctions and communicates effectively with departments.
  • Responds to call lights, phones, passes meal trays, and transports patients.
  • Participates in self-review, identifies learning needs, and seeks guidance as needed.
  • Provides patient/family instruction under RN direction; applies/removes restraints per protocol.
  • Maintains clear communication with healthcare team; supports a safe and respectful work environment.
  • Adheres to infection control, safety policies, and confidentiality standards.Supports departmental changes, projects, and quality initiatives.
  • Documents care and activities accurately in the medical record.
  • Fully competent in ADLs, telemetry monitor application, patient safety indicators, and all specimen collections.
  • May perform advanced skills based on department needs: venipuncture, IV/Foley removal, NG tube management, basic arrhythmia interpretation.
