Job summary

Baystate Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician to join the Medical/Surgical team at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA. The role involves day shifts, 36 hours per week on a 12-hour schedule, with every-other-Saturday/Sunday and every-other holiday requirements.

The department focuses on safe, compassionate care for a diverse adult patient population, in collaboration with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

  • Provides safe, age-appropriate care; obtains and documents vital signs, measurements, intake/output, and changes in patient condition; promptly reports concerns to the appropriate clinical team member.
  • Performs approved treatments and procedures, including dressing changes, specimen collection, EKGs, Point-of-Care testing, and other unit-specific clinical functions in accordance with Baystate Health policies.
  • Assists nurses and providers with examinations, treatments, procedures, elimination needs, and other delegated patient care activities; monitors patients and reports unexpected changes.
  • Communicates respectfully and effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team; recognizes culturally based needs and supports both clinical and non-clinical team activities.
  • Maintains patient safety, initiates appropriate emergency procedures, provides one-to-one patient observation when required, and maintains required clinical competencies.
