Job Description

The Patient Care Technician facilitates and assists in meeting the needs of the patient, within the scope delegated by the Registered Nurse (RN). The PCT follows directions from RNs, Lead/Charge Nurses, Nursing Directors, and House Supervisors.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must attend and successfully complete the UTMC Healthcare Tech training course and maintain CPR/BLS certification thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current CPR/BLS certification and either:
  • Active Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) certification, or
  • Recent graduate of an accredited nursing program, or
  • Passing a Skill Assessment with relevant experience, eliminating the need for the Healthcare Tech course.
Skills and Abilities
  • Legible writing, articulate speech, ability to follow directions.
  • Ability to organize work, accept responsibility, and perform delegated duties.
  • Willingness to work weekends and holidays; rotate shifts/units if required.
  • Physical requirements include visual acuity, hearing, communication, manual dexterity, ability to lift 50 pounds, and perform CPR.
