Job summary

Shirley Ryan AbilityLab is seeking a Patient Care Technician for the Brain Innovation Center in Chicago. This role provides basic daily care, assists with hygiene and daily living activities, and supports patient care areas in a clean, orderly manner.

Responsibilities include taking vital signs, documenting data, transferring patients, and assisting with orientation and safety. CNA certification or current enrollment is required with a high school diploma or equivalent.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• CNA Certification or current enrollment in an accredited nursing program required.
• Successful completion of the Patient Care Technician orientation.
• Demonstrates competency in growth and development across age groups (infant to geriatric).
• Communicates effectively using verbal, non-verbal, and written communication.
• Proactively takes ownership for serving customers, team, and organization.
• Willingly adapts to changing work demands and environment.
• Demonstrates critical thinking and sound judgments to monitor and respond to patient needs.
• Ability to transfer and position patients, lifting up to 35 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Performs various activities in the treatment and care of patients, including routine hygiene care, ingestion of food and fluids, elimination of body wastes, mobilization, and dressing/undressing.
• Performs and records routine technical tasks such as collecting specimens, taking vital signs, collecting and recording intake/output and blood glucose, giving suppositories, catheterization, measuring bladder volume, hanging gastric feedings, and escorting patients.
• Collects and reports pertinent data based on the patient plan of care or patient need.
• Orientates patient and family to environment, activities, safety hazards, and prevention strategies as identified by RN.
• Implements interventions directed by the plan of care as directed by the RN.
• Observes patients and reports changes in condition to RN.
• Assists in transferring patients and care equipment to other areas.
• Documents care procedures and data in nursing database.
• Assists in monitoring supply needs to ensure bed/room inventory.

Education

CNA Certification or current enrollment in an accredited nursing program
