Job Overview

This position involves providing direct patient care and assisting with unit coordination. The technician performs basic nursing procedures related to patient comfort and care, supporting RN efforts in caring for acutely ill patients. Responsibilities include practicing medical asepsis, respecting patient dignity and privacy, maintaining objectivity, adhering to hospital policies, responding to emergencies, maintaining the patient environment, and documenting care in electronic records. The role operates under RN supervision, with specific tasks assigned by the Charge Nurse or Care Team Leader, emphasizing efficient time management and coordination of admissions, discharges, and transfers.

Responsibilities
  1. Direct Patient Care and Documentation (50%): Activities include assisting with activities of daily living, vital signs, specimen collection, phlebotomy, I&O, meal monitoring, EKG testing, blood glucose testing, bladder scanning, patient transport, documentation of treatments, and assisting with exams and procedures.
  2. Quality and Satisfaction Initiatives (20%): Participate in bedside shift reports, hourly rounding, safety protocols, and precepting new staff.
  3. Documentation and Reporting (15%): Accurate recording of vital signs, weights, I&O, restraints, specimens, and treatments; reporting changes in patient conditions.
  4. Unit Activities (15%): Supply stocking, equipment cleaning, and checks.
  5. Additional Duties: Perform other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum
  • High School/GED
  • Experience as PCA, PCT, NA, LPN, EMT, or military medical roles
  • 1 year in acute or long-term care or enrolled in nursing program
  • Basic computer skills
  • Proficient in phlebotomy and straight catheterization
  • CPR certification (American Heart Association)
  • Clearances: Act 34, Act 33, Act 73 FBI fingerprinting
