The Patient Care Technician II provides routine patient care and supports the department services in accordance with established policies and procedures. They may be directed by the nurse or physician to ensure the highest quality patient care. Responsibilities include completing advanced patient care duties after training and competencies, performing UPMC nursing core assistant tasks (blood glucose, weights, vital signs, I&O, specimen collections, Foley care), and performing tasks like 12 lead EKG, dressing changes, Foley removal, point of care testing, bladder scan, and IV removal.

About the Trauma ICU (STICU):

This is a 12-bed ICU caring for trauma, surgical, and critically ill medical patients, fostering a relationship-based care environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Support department projects and quality initiatives.
  • Suggest and support departmental changes.
  • Assist in planning and prioritizing activities.
  • Complete clerical functions.
  • Understand cultural diversity, horizontal violence, and impairment issues.
  • Maintain professional relationships and adhere to policies.
  • Assist with patient procedures and activities of daily living.
  • Perform core nursing assistant responsibilities and at least four hospital-identified tasks from a specified list.
  • Identify learning needs and communicate with the unit director.
  • Follow safety policies, document appropriately, and communicate effectively.
  • Provide patient and family instruction under RN supervision.
  • Participate in projects, report equipment issues, and develop productive relationships.
  • Transport monitored patients as needed.
  • Qualifications include a high school diploma, completion of UPMC PCT II class or equivalent experience, relevant certifications, and basic computer skills.
  • Licensure and certifications required include CPR (BLS), and Act 34 clearance; ACLS preferred.
