Summary

Provides routine direct and indirect patient care in hospital, clinic, or home health settings under the supervision of a registered nurse or physician.

Responsibilities
  1. Assist healthcare providers with examinations, procedures, and procurement of supplies, including during emergencies.
  2. In psychiatric settings, aid patients with reality orientation, participate in behavior plans, support therapy, de-escalate aggression, assist with physical management of aggressive patients, facilitate play for children, and monitor therapeutic activities.
  3. Observe, document, and report patient information and significant changes in condition.
  4. Assist patients and families during admission, orientation, and discharge processes.
  5. Provide care/treatments such as vital signs, specimen collection, wound care, and patient interactions as per care plan.
  6. Assist with routine activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, feeding, and ambulation.
  7. Perform indirect care duties like cleaning, restocking, sterilizing, transporting, and clerical tasks.
  8. Reinforce patient teaching, document understanding, and distribute educational materials.
Other Requirements
  • Completion of an approved Nurse Assistant II course by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
  • Current Nurse Aide II Listing Card and Nurse Aide I Registry listing.
  • Current BCLS certification.
  • Proficiency in keyboard, word processing, and basic computer applications.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment.
  • Potential requirement to complete a Medical Terminology and basic arrhythmia course within first year.
