GENERAL OVERVIEW:

This role involves providing direct patient care and assisting with non-direct unit coordination. The incumbent performs basic nursing procedures for patients in stable condition, supporting the RN with acutely ill patients. Responsibilities include practicing medical asepsis, respecting patient dignity and privacy, maintaining objectivity, adhering to hospital policies, responding to emergencies, and ensuring a clean environment. Effective communication and accurate documentation in electronic medical records are essential. The role operates under supervision of the RN, with specific tasks assigned by the Charge Nurse or Care Team Leader. Time management and coordination activities such as admissions, discharges, and transfers are also key components.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform and document direct patient care activities including vital signs, specimen collection, phlebotomy, I&O, mobility, dressing changes, Foley catheter management, IV documentation, and assistance with exams and treatments. (50%)
  • Participate in quality and patient satisfaction initiatives, safety protocols, and precept new staff. (20%)
  • Accurately document vital signs, weights, I&O, restraints, specimens, EKGs, and treatments; report changes to nursing staff. (15%)
  • Assist with unit activities such as supply stocking and equipment cleaning. (15%)
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum

  • High School/GED
  • Experience as PCA, PCT, NA, LPN, EMT, or military medical roles (e.g., Hospital Corpsman, Combat medic, Medical Service Technician)
  • At least 1 year in acute or long-term care or enrolled in nursing education program (halfway through Associate's or Junior year of Bachelor's)
  • Basic computer skills
  • Proficiency in phlebotomy and straight catheterization
  • CPR certification (American Heart Association)
  • Clearances: Act 34, Act 33, Act 73 FBI fingerprinting
