Job summary

UTMB Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician I for the Ace Unit in Galveston (Days). The role requires completing a Nurse Assistant, Medical Assistant, Medical Corpsman, EMT, or UTMB training program, or two years of direct patient care experience, or current MA/CNA/PCT certification, or nursing school with clinical concepts completed.

A valid BLS is required. Responsibilities include collecting vital signs, venipuncture, 12-lead EKG, POCT, basic patient care, hygiene, feeding, mobility

Qualifications

• Completion of a Nurse Assistant program OR
• Completion of Medical Assistant program OR
• Completion of Medical Corpsman program OR
• Completion of EMT program OR
• Completion of UTMB Hospital Aide Training Program OR
• Two years of experience in a direct patient care environment OR
• Certified MA, PCT, or CNA at time of hire OR
• Enrolled in a recognized School of Nursing with first semester clinicals or health assessment.

Responsibilities

• Collects, reports, and documents data: vital signs, height/weight, intake/output, pulse oximetry, specimen collection.
• Obtains blood samples by venipuncture.
• Acquires 12 lead EKG.
• Performs and reports POCT.
• Assists with patient activities and care as directed by the charge nurse.
• Provides for patients' personal hygiene and basic care.
• Assists with feeding and mobility.
• Maintains patient privacy and safety; adheres to infection control measures.
• Maintains clean, safe patient care areas and proper isolation procedures.
• Assists with requests for other hospital services.
