Job summary

UTMB Health in Galveston, TX seeks a patient support/assistance role to provide basic technical help and supportive patient care across its service areas. Candidates may qualify through completing a Nurse Assistant, Medical Assistant, Medical Corpsman, or EMT program, or via experience in direct patient care, with BLS required at hire.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent plus one of the listed programs or two years of direct patient care experience.
• Certification as MA, PCT, or CNA at the time of hire is required.
• BLS certification is required.
• Enrollment in a nursing program with clinical concepts is acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic technical assistance and supportive patient care across assigned areas.
• Assist patients with daily activities and comfort measures as part of the care team.

JOB DESCRIPTION

To provide basic technical assistance and supportive patient care to meet the needs of individual patients throughout assigned areas.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Minimum Qualifications:

High school or equivalent AND completion of one of the following technical programs:

• Completion of a recognized Nurse Assistant program
• Completion of a Medical Assistant program
• Completion of Medical Corpsman program
• Completion of EMT program
• Completion of a UTMB Hospital Aide Training Program
• Two (2) years of experience in a direct patient care environment
• Certified MA, PCT, or CNA at time of hire
• Is enrolled in a recognized School of Nursing and has completed the first semester of education which contains clinical concepts and health assessment or the equivalent.
