Job Description

General Summary

Under the direction of professional nursing staff, provides direct patient care including taking vital signs, checking surgical dressings, assisting with activities of daily living, performing blood draws, and collecting specimens. Observes and communicates patient status to identify needs and supports the interdisciplinary care team.

Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Performs testing and manages patient care based on clinical findings.
  • Records patient care activities, including ADLs such as feeding, bathing, dressing, toileting, and transferring.
  • Documents vital signs, pain levels, and other patient data.
  • Assists with patient admission, transfer, and discharge processes.
  • Participates in strategies to optimize patient outcomes and safety.
  • Maintains patient rooms and supplies, provides post-mortem care, and collaborates with the healthcare team to carry out care plans.
  • Ensures patient comfort, measures dietary intake, urine and stool output, and documents accordingly.
  • Performs wound care, specimen collection, and orthopedic device care.
  • Participates in hourly rounding, responds to alarms, and reports safety risks or adverse events.
  • Uses safe lifting techniques and body mechanics, and strives to improve patient flow.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current Maryland CNA or GNA certification.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • No prior experience required; healthcare experience preferred.

  • Teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Organizational skills and ability to perform under stress.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Skill in blood glucose testing and documentation.
  • Ability to perform delegated nursing tasks respecting patient diversity.

Compensation

  • Pay Range: $17.17 - $24.76
