GENERAL OVERVIEW:

This role involves providing direct patient care and assisting with non-direct unit coordination. The incumbent performs basic nursing procedures for patients in stable condition, with knowledge of patient needs in the assigned area. They assist RNs with acutely ill patients, practice medical asepsis, respect patient dignity and privacy, and maintain objectivity during care. They adhere to hospital policies, respond to emergencies, maintain the environment, communicate effectively, and document care in electronic records. The work is supervised by RNs, with specific tasks assigned by Charge Nurse or Care Team Leader. The role also includes coordinating activities like admissions, discharges, and transfers.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provide and document patient care activities such as vital signs, mobility, specimen collection, intake/output, and more. (30%)
  2. Participate in quality and satisfaction initiatives like bedside shift reports, safety rounds, and maintaining a clean environment. (30%)
  3. Accurately document all patient data and report changes or concerns to nursing staff. (20%)
  4. Assist with unit activities such as stocking supplies and cleaning equipment. (20%)
  5. Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to attend 2 weeks of training if limited experience
  • Ability to read, write, follow instructions, perform basic math, and use computers
  • CPR certification (American Heart Association)
  • Act 34, Act 33, and Act 73 background checks

Preferred

  • Recent acute care experience (within last 3 years)
  • Enrolled in ASN or BSN program, with clinical rotation completed
