GENERAL OVERVIEW:

This job provides direct care to patients and assists with non-direct patient care unit coordination. The incumbent is expected to perform basic nursing procedures related to patient care and comfort for patients in stable condition, with knowledge of patient population needs in the assigned area. They will assist the RN in caring for acutely ill patients, practice medical asepsis, respect patient dignity and privacy, and maintain objectivity during patient care. They must follow hospital policies, respond appropriately in emergencies, maintain the patient environment, and document care accurately in the electronic medical record. The incumbent works under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, receiving specific assignments from the Charge Nurse or Care Team Leader, and demonstrates effective time management. They also handle activities related to patient admissions, discharges, and transfers.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provide and document direct patient care activities such as vital signs, ambulation, specimen collection, and assistance with treatments and procedures. (30%)
  2. Participate in quality and patient satisfaction initiatives, including bedside shift reports, hourly rounding, falls prevention, hand hygiene, and maintaining a clean environment. (30%)
  3. Accurately document patient data and report any changes or concerns to nursing staff. (20%)
  4. Assist with unit activities like supply stocking and equipment cleaning. (20%)
  5. Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Limited or no experience; must attend 2 weeks of training
  • Ability to read, write, and follow instructions
  • Basic math skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • CPR certification (American Heart Association)
  • Act 34, Act 33, and Act 73 background clearances

Preferred:

  • Recent acute care experience within 3 years
  • Enrollment in ASN or BSN program, with at least one clinical rotation completed

Full Time Rotational:

36 hours/week with 3 x 12-hour shifts, including evenings, overnights, and weekends. Flexibility required.
