Patient Care Technician I, 7n, Full Time, SVH

Overview

This position provides direct patient care and assists with unit coordination. The incumbent performs basic nursing procedures for stable patients and supports RN care for acutely ill patients. Responsibilities include practicing medical asepsis, respecting patient dignity and privacy, maintaining objectivity, adhering to hospital policies, responding to emergencies, maintaining the patient environment, and documenting care accurately. The role involves working under supervision of RNs, with specific assignments from Charge Nurse or Care Team Leader, and includes activities related to admissions, discharges, and transfers.

Responsibilities
  • Perform and document activities such as vital signs, ambulation, specimen collection, I&O, patient transport, and assisting with treatments. (30%)
  • Participate in quality and satisfaction initiatives like bedside shift reports, hourly rounding, fall prevention, hand hygiene, isolation protocols, and maintaining a clean environment. (30%)
  • Accurately document vital signs, weights, I&O, restraints, specimens, and treatments; report changes or concerns to nursing staff. (20%)
  • Assist with supply stocking, equipment cleaning, and unit checks. (20%)
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Limited or no experience; able to attend 2-week training
  • Ability to read, write, follow instructions, perform basic math, and use computers
  • CPR certification (American Heart Association)
  • Act 34, Act 33, and Act 73 background clearances
Preferred:
  • Recent acute care experience within 3 years
  • Enrollment in ASN or BSN program, with clinical rotation completed
