Baystate Health in Springfield, MA is seeking a committed Patient Care Technician for the MassMutual 6 Heart & Vascular Inpatient unit at Baystate Medical Center. The role focuses on safe patient care for post‑operative cardiac surgery patients with 34 beds in a cardiovascular telemetry unit.

The technician will monitor vital signs, assist with activities of daily living, document wellbeing, and collaborate with the care team to ensure high-quality, compassionate care.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • BLS CPR Certification through American Heart Association.
  • At least one year of patient care experience (this experience can vary in level of long-term care, specialty, acute care).
  • PCT training or CNA training.

Responsibilities

  • Provided safe, age‑appropriate patient care, assisting with activities of daily living, mobility, elimination, and personal care.
  • Monitored and accurately documented vital signs, weights, intake/output, and other parameters; reported significant changes to nursing staff.
  • Assisted with treatments, procedures, dressing changes, specimen collection, and point‑of‑care testing.
  • Provided one‑to‑one patient observation as needed and responded to emergencies.
  • Collaborated with nurses, physicians, and team members with clear communication and accurate documentation.

Baystate Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician to join our MassMutual 6 Heart & Vascular Inpatient at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts. Our MassMutual 6 unit is a 34 bed acute care cardiovascular telemetry unit. The unit specializes in and provides a full array of services for post-operative cardiac surgery patients, TAVR, and vascular surgery patients as well as cardiac post procedural patients.

The Patient Care Technician Will:
  • Provided safe, age‑appropriate patient care, assisting with activities of daily living, mobility, elimination, and personal care while promoting patient dignity and safety.
  • Monitored and accurately documented vital signs, weights, intake/output, and other physiological parameters; promptly reported significant changes in patient condition to nursing staff.
  • Assisted with treatments, procedures, dressing changes, specimen collection, point‑of‑care testing, and physician examinations in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
  • Provided one‑to‑one patient observation as needed, recognized changes in patient condition or safety concerns, and responded appropriately to emergency situations.
  • Collaborated effectively with nurses, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members while maintaining clear communication, accurate documentation, and patient‑centered care.

As a Patient Care Technician, you’ll provide hands‑on care, support patient safety and comfort, recognize important changes in condition, and work alongside nurses and the broader care team to help patients achieve the best possible outcomes.

  • Schedule: Three twelve hour shifts per week
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
