Job Summary

Geisinger is proud to offer a Patient Care Technician position with a $1500 sign-on bonus for eligible candidates. The minimum hiring rate is $18.94, with increased rates for experienced individuals and up to $3 shift differentials for evening, night, and weekend shifts. We are also offering up to $40,000 in financial support to become a nurse!

Job Duties

  • Perform advanced patient care duties under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, maintaining the patient care and unit environment according to policies and procedures.
  • Provide enhanced patient care, including dressing care, suctioning, Foley catheter removal, and peripheral IV management.
  • Perform venipunctures and skin punctures following Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute guidelines.
  • Manage storage, preparation, and delivery of breast milk and pediatric formulas.
  • Document patient information accurately to create a complete medical record.
  • Observe and report changes in patient condition to licensed personnel.
  • Obtain and maintain specimen integrity as per policy and physician orders.
  • Assist with activities of daily living and ongoing care, including hygiene and linen changes.
  • Provide patient safety watch as assigned.
  • Process and transport specimens to the laboratory in a timely manner.
  • Perform point-of-care testing and maintain related equipment.
  • Assist in troubleshooting equipment and supplies.
  • Serve as a preceptor and mentor for new staff and students.
  • Handle clerical duties related to admissions, transfers, discharges, and orders.
  • Coordinate transportation of patients and specimens.
  • Participate in electronic communication and scheduling of tests.
  • Assist with ordering supplies and communicating with food services regarding patient diets.
  • Operate and troubleshoot clerical equipment, scheduling maintenance as needed.
  • Transport non-controlled medications and blood products as necessary.
  • Conduct discharge follow-up calls and participate in virtual discharge planning.
  • Support staff in drills and quality rounds, and participate in regulatory readiness activities.

Work Environment and Policies

Work is performed in a clinical setting. Staff are expected to meet all job-specific obligations and organizational policies. The specific responsibilities outlined are typical but not exhaustive, and additional competencies may be required based on departmental orientation.

Position Details

  • Full-time, 36 hours/week
  • Hours: 7am-7:30pm, three 12-hour shifts per week
  • Every other weekend and holiday rotation
  • Experience preferred; training and education provided
  • Must attend a 2-week daytime orientation
  • Additional $2/hour float differential

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Graduate from Specialty Training Program preferred

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year related work experience preferred

Certifications

  • Basic Life Support Certification within 6 months
