Job summary

Kroger is seeking a Patient Care Technician to help maximize patient flow and deliver an outstanding patient experience in our clinic. Under the day-to-day direction of the on‑site nurse practitioner or physician assistant, you will perform administrative tasks and document in the EHR in accordance with policy.

You will greet patients, manage the front area, assist with registration, verify identities, collect payments, and log data into the system.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Basic computer skills and proficiency.
• Excellent administrative, communication, and organizational abilities with high attention to detail.
• Basic math skills (counting, addition, subtraction).
• Ability to work cooperatively in a fast-paced, team-based environment.
• Excellent customer service, organizational, and task-management skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist in maintaining a safe, quality-based, survey-ready healthcare environment as required to maintain Joint Commission Accreditation.
• Greet customers or patients in the front area or near the clinic.
• Clean and organize the clinic space daily, including trash, supplies, floors, and exam rooms; disinfect equipment.
• Answer questions while following HIPAA guidelines; consult with the provider on scope of services.
• Manage waiting room flow using the Patient Queue, Appointment Tool, and Patient Kiosk systems.
• Complete patient registration and place the patient under the scheduler book for the provider on duty.
• Verify patient identity using government-issued ID.
• Determine payment method and collect payments; log in the EHR.
• Collect insurance information and log in the EHR; ensure documentation is complete.
• Scan documents or alert the provider for scanning; assist as needed.
• Escort patient to exam room and determine chief complaint; obtain vital signs and history.
• Document data in the EHR in clinics with completed competencies.
• Continue patient processing in waiting area following clinic flow.
• Advise waiting or new patients on registration, wait times, services, and payment methods.
• Answer phones, return calls per policy, and complete daily callbacks.
• Participate in and prepare for off-site events as needed.
• Prepare weekly orders for provider approval; package, label specimens, and mail for shipping.
• If float, travel to designated clinics within a geographic area.
• Advanced PCTs may assist with specimen collection under protocols and report negative labs to patients.
