Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is seeking a Patient Care Technician for the Emergency Department evenings. The role supports the ED team in patient care, vital signs, mobility, phlebotomy, EKGs, and specimen collection under RN supervision.

A high school diploma and BLS are required or met via eligible certifications; prior healthcare experience is preferred. The position offers on-site work in Norfolk, VA with a flexible time option and a 12-hour week schedule, primarily Fridays, in an ED

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required).
• AHA BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
• One year health care experience preferred.
• CNA/NCMA/NCPCT or equivalent credential(s) are acceptable.
• Current clinical program student (RN/LPN/RT/PT) in progress may qualify.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care and assist with activities of daily living.
• Record vital signs and report changes to RN.
• Assist with mobility and ambulation.
• Perform phlebotomy and point-of-care testing.
• Conduct EKG testing and collect specimens.
• Assist with Foley catheter insertion/removal as directed.

Our Trauma One Facility is equipped to handle a variety of medical emergencies, and approximately 10% are Trauma related. The **Patient Care Technician** provides patient care, supports independent and dependent activities of daily living, vital signs, mobility and ambulation, phlebotomy, point of care testing, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and foley catheter insertion and removal, and complies with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional RN nurse.
