Job summary

Jackson Health System in Miami is seeking a Patient Care Technician to support nursing staff in an inpatient setting. Under RN supervision, you will assist with hygiene, safety, nutrition, and comfort for a group of patients.

Responsibilities include assisting with procedures, preparing supplies, positioning patients, taking vital signs, transporting patients, and maintaining clean treatment areas. The role requires effective communication and the ability to work in a fast-paced hospital

Qualifications

• Completion of an approved Nursing Assistant Certification program is required.
• All new hires after 08/09/2020 must have a Certified Nursing Assistant License.
• Employees hired into the classification before this date are grandfathered in.
• American Heart Association and any additional life support certification may be required at unit level.

Responsibilities

• Assists health care team with simple procedure; prepares supplies equipment; provides patient/family support, assists in positioning patients, sets up/or remove equipment etc.
• Performs tasks related to vital signs, feeding, mobility, IV lines, drainage, personal hygiene, etc.
• Utilizes specialized equipment as needed when providing patient care.
• Prepares and cleans exam rooms, patient treatment areas and stretchers between patient use.
• Transports patients to and from treatment areas; cleans clinic area after treatment.
• Takes and picks up food orders for patient's kitchen evaluation.
• Assists in fabricating adaptive equipment (washing mitts, wheelchair gloves, belts, straps).
• Keeps storage closet organized; assists with office duties as needed.
• Follows unit policies and demonstrates CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Expertise).
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Summary

Patient Care Technician is a member of the health care team who performs functions which support the delivery of a single standard of care, under the supervision of a registered nurse, for a group of patients relating to their hygiene, safety, nutrition, elimination and comfort needs.

Responsibilities

• Uses a systematic process to provide/modify care and patient/family education.
• Assists health care team with simple procedure; prepares supplies equipment; provides patient/family support, assists in positioning patients, sets up/or remove equipment etc.
• Performs a variety of tasks associated with generalized patient care (vital signs, feeding, mobility, IV lines, drainage, personal hygiene: bath, dressing, bed making/linen changes etc.).
• Utilizes specialized equipment as needed when providing patient care (spirometer, restraints etc.).
• Prepares and cleans exam rooms, patient treatment areas and stretchers between patient use.
• Transports patients to and from treatment areas when needed. Cleans clinic area he/she is assigned to after patients' treatment is finished at the end of day according to departmental procedures.
• Takes and picks up food orders for patient's kitchen evaluation.
• Assists in the fabrication of adaptive and assistive equipment, i.e. washing mitts, wheelchair gloves, safety belts, straps, etc.
• Keeps the storage closet in order and stocked. Assists with office duties as needed, i.e. answering phone, taking messages.
• Follows and performs all related unit specific policies and procedures, as detailed on the unit specific competency checklist.
• Utilizes job and unit specific equipment as required.

• Performs all other related job duties as assigned.

Experience

Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.

Education

High School Diploma or successful completion of GED is required.

Skill

Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Knowledge and skill in use of job appropriate technology and software applications. Must meet and maintain current all unit specific and organizational skills/competencies, certifications/licensures, as required by the nursing area.

Credentials

Completion of an approved Nursing Assistant Certification program is required. All new hires after 08/09/2020 are required to have a Certified Nursing Assistant License. Employees hired into the classification before this date are grandfathered in. American Heart Association and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers may be required at the unit level upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.

Physical Requirements

- Job function requires extended standing or walking. Must be able to carry objects weighing 21 to 50 pounds. Able to lift or move objects weighing 51 to 100 pounds with the use of appropriate devices. Jobs in this group require frequent visual acuity to perform activities related to extended use of computers. Environmental Conditions
