POSITION SUMMARY

The patient care technician, under the direction of a Registered Nurse, is responsible for quality service by performing clerical tasks and patient care activities. This includes maintaining and assisting with patient records, ordering supplies and services, scheduling diagnostic tests and treatments, and assisting physicians and nurses. They are a member of the healthcare team who works under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, to organize, assist and implement specific aspects of the plan of care for the geriatric, adult, adolescent, pediatric and infant patients. They communicate in a timely manner with the patient, family and healthcare team, and document care per hospital protocol. They may be required to work on other units according to the distribution of staff, patients and individual competency.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS/LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION

  • High school diploma or equivalent or currently enrolled in high school or equivalent
  • Nursing Assistant Certification
  • Patient Care Technician Certification - Optional
  • Health Unit Coordinator Program Graduate – Optional
  • CPR Certification or obtain within 90 days of hire
