Overview
The UI Heart and Vascular Center is seeking a full-time (100%) Patient Care Technician to support the Cardiovascular Pre- and Post-Recovery Unit (CPRU). Under direct supervision, this position will work closely with physicians, nursing, and imaging technologists to assist in multiple types of patient care and related tasks, optimizing efficiency primarily in the Cardiovascular Procedure Recovery Unit (CPRU). This role may float to procedural labs based on need.

Responsibilities
- Assists with lab preparation including stocking supplies and setup.
- Assists in the management of daily deliveries of stores items to the procedural labs by stocking items and notifying nursing staff of backordered items.
- Performs quality controls on glucometer devices and maintains supplies to comply with regulatory guidelines. Performs blood glucose testing on patients as delegated.
- Assists with checking expiration dates on supplies as delegated.
- Assists with completing requisitions and other forms as directed. May include preventative maintenance monitoring of equipment in the lab.
- Supports preparation, proper use and care of equipment and supplies, and maintains neatness and cleanliness of the lab.
- Assists with procedural preparation including surgical clipping of appropriate skin areas.
- Sets up and connects noninvasive hemodynamic monitoring equipment to patients.
- Reports pertinent patient information and incidents to the person in charge.
- Assists in answering call lights and telephones.
- Transports patients by bed, cart, or wheelchair between recovery units, procedural labs, and inpatient units.
- Assists with lab turnover cleaning duties as delegated.
- Performs basic CPR as required.
- Maintains patient confidentiality.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Assumes responsibility for ongoing self-learning and maintenance of clinical skills, analyzes own performance, and sets goals.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to communicate effectively with others verbally, electronically, and in writing with patients, family members and health care staff.
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
- Ability to provide care with regard to patient condition and age.
- Knowledge of principles of sanitation and health hazards.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, instruments and supplies.
- Ability to collect patient data and maintain accurate records.
- Knowledge of keyboarding and computer data entry skills.
Minimum Eligibility Requirements
- Ability to read, write and follow instructions.
Desired Qualifications
- Certification as a Nursing Assistant is preferred.
- Direct patient-care experience.
- Experience working in a health care environment.
- Strong communication skills.
- Experience providing customer service relations.
- Strong organizational skills.
