Patient Care Technician

Full-Time, Night Shift

Overview

Patient Care Technicians are unlicensed staff members who are accountable to, and work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse to implement delegated aspects of nursing care. Responsibilities include providing patient care, supporting the admissions and discharge process, and ensuring compliance with patient safety practices under the guidance of the professional nurse. They observe patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions and report any changes to the nursing staff.

Education

Certification/Licensure

Must have a High School Diploma and one of the following:

• Sentara Care Partner Certification Program
• Successful completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program
• National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)
• National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT), completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School, Emergency Services including EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT, and Paramedic
• Current enrollment in a clinical program with at least one completed semester (e.g., RN, LPN, RT, or PT)
• Recent work experience within the last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant
