Job Description

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) provides high-quality, patient-centered care by performing basic patient care services and supporting caring connections with patients and families. Under the supervision of registered nurses, the PCT assists in providing care within their skills and training, maintaining a safe and organized environment. The PCT ensures compliance with hospital policies and State Board of Nursing rules for unlicensed personnel. Patient care may include adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.

Responsibilities
  • Provide patient care under supervision, performing tasks validated by training and competency.
  • Record patient information such as vital signs, intake/output, blood glucose, and other data, reporting abnormal values.
  • Perform patient rounds, report changes immediately, and respond promptly to call lights.
  • Perform hygiene procedures, assist with mobility, and transfer patients safely.
  • Collect specimens accurately and ensure proper labeling and transfer.
  • Address patient concerns, escalate issues appropriately, and document shift reports.
  • Support administrative tasks, orient new staff, and assist during downtime.
  • Perform clerical duties and maintain compliance with education requirements.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of experience in a direct patient care environment.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification upon hire.
Physical and Skills Requirements
  • Constant walking, standing, bending, and turning.
  • Ability to lift and turn patients, push/pull heavy objects.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to read, write, and perform mathematical calculations.
