Patient Care Technician - Advanced Heart Failure Unit

Overview:

  • Work Shift: First (Days)

The Patient Care Technician provides patient care, supports activities of daily living, vital signs, mobility, phlebotomy, point of care testing, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, Foley catheter insertion and removal, and complies with patient safety practices under the supervision of an RN. Observes patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions, documents findings promptly, and reports changes to medical staff.

Education:

  • HS Diploma or Equivalent (Required), plus one of the following:
  • Sentara Care Partner Certification Program, or
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), or
  • National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), or
  • National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT), or
  • US Navy Hospital Corps School, or
  • Emergency Services (EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT, Paramedic), or
  • Current student in a clinical program (beyond prerequisites) with at least one semester completed in RN, LPN, RT, or PT, or
  • Recent work experience within last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant.

Certification/Licensure:

  • Basic Life Support Certification
