Job summary

The University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson is seeking a Patient Care Technician for Adult Acute Care in Orthopedics on 5 North. The PCT provides direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse, performing clinical and supportive tasks and ensuring patient comfort and safety.

Responsibilities include monitoring vital signs, assisting with daily living activities, transporting patients, performing basic procedures, maintaining records, and supporting the care team

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus direct patient care experience or nursing aide training.
• Two years’ direct patient care experience in a hospital setting.
• CNA certification with MS Department of Health.
• UMMC Student Nurse Externship or Patient Care Technician training program.

Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate patient care and support to patients and families.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living (bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, feeding, mobility).
• Measure, record, and report vital signs to the nurse.
• Perform basic patient care procedures per policy and competencies.
• Collect and transport specimens as needed.
• Assist with patient transport for tests, procedures, and transfers.
• Support clinical staff with procedures and patient care activities.
• Maintain accurate documentation in electronic health records.
