Patient Care Technician - 7E Neurology/Oncology - FT Nights

Join us as a Patient Care Technician - 7E Neurology/Oncology - FT Nights at UPMC.

Position Overview

UPMC Williamsport is seeking a Full-Time Patient Care Technician for 7 East Neurology/Oncology Med Surg. This adult medical/surgical unit specializes in Neurology and Oncology care.

This role involves working 36 hours per week during the night shift, primarily from 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., including every other weekend and holiday.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with patient care, procedures, and activities of daily living, including physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies. Provide feedback to RNs and report patient status changes.
  • Perform core nursing assistant tasks (blood glucose, vital signs, I&O, specimen collection, Foley care) and at least four additional tasks such as phlebotomy, 12-lead EKG, dressing changes, Foley removal, point-of-care testing, bladder scans, or IV removal.
  • Report equipment issues, communicate effectively with departments, and maintain professional relationships. Participate in unit activities like responding to call lights, passing meals, and patient transport.
  • Receive and incorporate feedback, identify learning needs, and seek assistance as necessary. Participate in self-review and continuous improvement.
  • Educate patients and families under RN supervision. Manage patient restraints as per protocols.
  • Communicate clearly with the healthcare team, respecting cultural diversity and promoting safety. Build productive relationships and demonstrate accountability.
  • Follow all policies and safety procedures, including standard precautions.
  • Support departmental changes, contribute to quality initiatives, and document in medical records timely and accurately.
  • Perform essential nursing assistant duties, including ADLs, point-of-care testing, telemetry, and restraint management. Achieve and maintain required competencies.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of healthcare experience, or six months as a UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA with competency achieved within 120 days, or enrollment in a relevant healthcare training program, or a bachelor's in health sciences.
  • Successful completion of UPMC patient care technician training and basic information system training.
  • CPR certification within 30 days of hire; ACLS preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
  • CPR (AHA standards) required within 30 days.
  • Act 34 clearance required.
