Join to apply for the Patient Care Technician - 7 West Acute Care - Full-Time Nights role at UPMC

UPMC Williamsport has a Full-Time Patient Care Technician opening on our 7 West Acute Care Department.

This position is night shift and requires every other holiday and every other weekend.

Responsibilities:
  1. Provide patient care including assisting with procedures and activities of daily living, physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies, and reporting changes in patient status to the RN.
  2. Perform core nursing assistant responsibilities (blood glucose, vital signs, I&O, specimen collection, Foley care) and at least four additional tasks such as phlebotomy, EKG, dressing changes, Foley removal, point of care testing, bladder scan, or IV removal.
  3. Report equipment malfunctions, communicate effectively with other departments, and contribute to unit activities like responding to call lights and transporting patients.
  4. Receive feedback constructively, identify learning needs, and participate in self-review.
  5. Provide patient and family instruction under RN supervision and manage patient restraints as per protocol.
  6. Communicate clearly with the healthcare team, understand cultural diversity, and support workplace safety.
  7. Adhere to policies and procedures, including safety and confidentiality standards.
  8. Support departmental changes, participate in projects and quality initiatives, and document all activities accurately.
  9. Perform additional duties as assigned, including ADLs, point of care testing, and other competencies as required.
Minimum Requirements:
  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Experience or enrollment in healthcare training programs as specified.
  3. Successful completion of UPMC patient care technician training and basic information system training.
  4. Microcomputer experience preferred.
  5. Effective communication skills.
  6. EMT or Paramedic certification or enrollment preferred.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • CPR (AHA standards) within 30 days of hire.
  • Additional certifications as specified (e.g., BLS, Act 31, Act 33, Act 34, FBI clearance).
