GENERAL OVERVIEW

This role involves providing direct patient care and assisting with non-direct unit coordination. The technician performs basic nursing procedures for patients in stable condition and supports RN care for acutely ill patients. Responsibilities include practicing medical asepsis, respecting patient dignity and privacy, maintaining objectivity, adhering to hospital policies, responding to emergencies, maintaining the patient environment, and documenting care in the electronic medical record. Work is supervised by RNs, with specific assignments from Charge Nurses or Care Team Leaders. The role also involves coordinating activities such as admissions, discharges, and transfers.

Essential Responsibilities

1. Provide and document activities such as vital signs, ambulation, specimen collection, intake/output, and other direct care tasks. (30%)
2. Participate in quality and satisfaction initiatives like bedside shift reports, hourly rounding, safety protocols, and environment maintenance. (30%)
3. Accurately document vital signs, weights, I&O, restraints, specimens, and treatments; report changes or concerns to nursing staff. (20%)
4. Assist with supply stocking, equipment cleaning, and checks. (20%)
5. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Limited or no experience; able to attend 2-week training
• Ability to read, write, and follow instructions
• Basic math skills
• Basic computer skills
• CPR certification (American Heart Association)
• Act 34, 33, and 73 background clearances

Preferred:

• Recent acute care experience (within last 3 years)
• Enrollment in ASN or BSN program, with at least one clinical rotation completed
