Overview
Patient Care Technician – 11 West Unit – Full Time Day Shift at 1906 Belleview Ave SE, Roanoke, VA. This role provides nursing care and basic clinical services to patients of all ages and genders, assisting with bathing, meals, toileting, ambulation, and other daily needs.
Responsibilities
- Provide basic nursing care, including taking blood pressure, checking oxygen levels and temperature, and assisting patients with activities of daily living.
- Assist patients on suicide or safety precautions when required.
- Perform advanced technical skills such as phlebotomy, non-sterile wound care dressings, saline lock removal, and colostomy bag changes as competent.
- Transport patients, supplies, specimens, and equipment within the facility.
- Document and report patient observations to licensed staff in the EMR.
- Participate in unit shared governance and quality surveillance activities.
- Support unit huddles, IDR rounds, and help with scheduling and busy periods.
- Serve as the "face" of the unit by greeting patients, answering calls, and supporting patient and visitor interactions.
- Follow safety and regulatory procedures, including code cart checks and incident reporting.
- Assist with admission, transfer, and discharge processes and patient flow coordination.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous direct patient care experience preferred.
- Certified Nursing Assistant preferred; required for critical access facility.
- American Heart Association BLS‑HCP certification required within 6 months of hire.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to attend mandatory orientation (8am‑5pm, Monday‑Friday for 2 weeks).
- Proficiency with EMR and basic office equipment.
- Capability to work in a fast‑paced environment with prioritization and time‑management.
