Job summary

The Black Women’s Mental Health Institute is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCT) to support dialysis treatment under RN supervision in a full-time capacity. You will set up hemodialysis machines, monitor patients, and ensure safety and comfort during cannulation and treatment.

Responsibilities include vital sign monitoring, recording measurements, and ensuring infection control, with heavy lifting and emergencies handled as needed. Comprehensive training and benefits accompany the role.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• 6 months healthcare or patient care experience.
• BLS certification required; CCHT exam within 18 months.
• Ability to work flexible hours including mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Set up hemodialysis machines and prepare vascular access.
• Greet patients and monitor dialysis, vital signs and fluid removal.
• Record vital signs and monitor for adverse reactions.
• Troubleshoot machines and maintain infection control.
• Assist in safe patient handling; heavy lifting.
• Respond to emergencies.

Role

Patient Care Technician (PCT) supporting dialysis treatment under RN supervision in a full-time capacity.

Responsibilities

Setting up hemodialysis machines, greeting patients, preparing vascular access, initiating and monitoring dialysis, recording vital signs, calculating fluid removal, performing access cannulation, monitoring for adverse reactions, troubleshooting machine malfunctions, maintaining infection control, ensuring patient safety and comfort, and responding to emergencies. The role involves heavy physical activity, including lifting and moving patients and equipment.

Qualifications

High school diploma, at least 6 months healthcare or patient care experience, basic computer skills, and ability to work flexible hours including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Certification in BLS required, and candidates must pass the CCHT exam within 18 months.

Skills and qualities

Excellent communication, bedside manner, comfort working with blood and needles, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Must pass the Ishihara Color Blind Test and be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
