Job summary

Gillette Children’s is hiring a Patient Care Technician 0.5 FTE at the St. Paul Main Campus. This role blends clerical support with patient care in the PeriAnesthesia Department.

Shifts are Monday–Friday, 6:00am–4:30pm, and the schedule is year-round with a consistent weekly pattern. Responsibilities include assisting nurses with ADLs, venipuncture, IV starts, and transcribing orders, while helping maintain a safe environment and coordinating unit communications.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Current CPR certification (BLS for Healthcare Providers) is required; must complete within one month of employment.

Description

We are currently hiring for a Patient Care Technician 0.5 FTE. This position provides both clerical support and patient care responsibilities in the PeriAnesthesia Department. Shifts scheduled Monday - Friday 10-hour, day shift (6:00am-4:30pm). Benefit eligible position at our St. Paul Main Campus! ** This position is a 0.5 FTE role with a consistent weekly schedule. Candidates must be available year‑round. At this time, we are not able to consider applicants who are only available during summer or academic breaks.

Clerical support is provided to the nursing departments through coordination of communication, transcription of provider orders, and maintenance of unit supplies. Patient care is provided by assisting the professional nurse in meeting basic activity of daily living (ADL) needs of the patient while maintaining an orderly and safe physical environment as well as venipuncture, IV starts, assisting with medical procedures.

Compensation & Benefits Information

The hourly wage for this opportunity is $21.18 min to $31.75, with a median wage of $26.47/hour. Pay is dependent on several factors including relevant work experience, education, certification & licensure, and internal equity. Hourly pay is just one part of the compensation package for employees.   • Performs nursing-delegated functions and interacts with families in a manner which reinforces the principles of family focused care. Maintains all special-order supplies and equipment.

Unit Support

  • Accurately transcribes and processes orders. Maintains an orderly and safe patient environment. Maintains unit supplies and equipment through routine inventories and ordering.

Communication

  • Coordinates the communication flow both intra- and interdepartmentally to ensure efficient function of the department.

Quality

  • Promotes quality care through identification of problems and opportunities for improvement, and by participating in unit planning and action plans.

Professional Development

  • Participates in activities that promote professional growth, ease of access quality improvement and patient satisfaction

Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • Current CPR certification (BLS for Healthcare Providers by the American Heart Association) is required. If candidate holds valid CPR for Healthcare providers through another acceptable organization (as determined by Gillette), candidate may be able to begin employment but must complete CPR BLS for Healthcare Providers by the American Heart Association within one month of employment.

Preferred

  • Health care experience preferred: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic, Military Medical Training or Phlebotomy certification.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of venipuncture, IV starts, prior experience assisting with medical procedures.
  • Ability to transcribe physician orders; knowledge of medical terminology and its application.
  • Pediatric experience - interest in working with children, adolescents with disabilities, and their families.
  • Demonstrates skill in interpersonal communication as related to patient, family, co-workers, physicians, and others.
  • Physically able to work hours required and transport/transfer patients. Potential exposure to infectious disease and hazardous substances.
