Job Description

Patient Care Technician facilitates and assists in meeting theneeds of the patient. These tasks are to be within the range ofresponsibilities that the Registered Nurse (RN) can rightfullydelegate to an unlicensed patient care provider. The Patient CareTechnician (PCT) follows the direction of the Registered Nurse, theLead/Charge Nurse, the Nursing Director/ Assistant NursingDirector, as well as the House Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications
  1. High School graduate or GED equivalent.
  2. Will be required to attend and successfully complete the UTMCHealthcare Tech training course and maintain CPR/BLS certificationthereafter.
    • Candidates with a current CPR/BLS certification AND at least one ofthe following are not required to attend and complete the UTMCHealth Tech training course:
    • Has successfully passed a State Approved Certified NursingAssistant (CNA) exam or State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) examand has an active certification on the applicable state registry atthe time of application.
    • A recent graduate of an accredited nursing program.
    • Candidates with recent equivalent experience who successfullypass the Skill Assessment will not be required to attend andcomplete the Healthcare Tech course.
  3. Ability to write legibly, speak articulately, and followdirections accurately.
  4. Ability to plan and organize work and to work under supervision.Willingness to accept responsibility for patients in their carewhen performing delegated functions of this position and to performdelegated duties in accordance with established methods andprocedures.
  5. Will be required to work some weekends and holidays.
  6. May be required to rotate shifts and units.
  7. Physical requirements:
    • a. visual acuity of 20/20 or corrected to 20/20 including colorvision when applicable;
    • b. ability to hear (with or without aides)
    • c. ability to orally communicate
    • d. good manual dexterity
    • e. ability to push, pull, roll, and transfer/lift 50 poundsoccasionally
    • f. ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, stoop, kneel frequently;and
    • h. ability to perform CPR
