Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk, VA is hiring a Patient Care Technician (PCT) for the Observation/Transition Unit. This full-time night position supports a 21-bed unit caring for patients under 24-48 hour observation.

The PCT performs patient care, assists with daily living activities, monitors patients, and supports phlebotomy, EKG, and specimen collection under RN supervision. A CNA/NCMA/NCPCT or equivalent certification is required or in progress.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or Equivalent required and one of: CNA, NCMA, NCPCT, Navy Hospital Corps School, EMS/EMT/AEMT, RN/LPN/RT/PT clinical student (one semester minimum), or prior PCT/Nursing Assistant experience.
• AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire.
• One year of health care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care and assist with activities of daily living.
• Monitor and document patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions.
• Take vital signs, mobility assistance, and assist with ambulation.
• Assist with phlebotomy, point of care testing, EKGs, and specimen collection.
• Support catheter removal and peripheral IV management as directed by RN.

We are seeking new grads or experienced candidates to join this team-oriented unit!The **Patient Care Technician (PCT)** provides patient care, supports independent and dependent activities of daily living, vital signs, mobility and ambulation, phlebotomy, point of care testing, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and foley catheter insertion and removal, and complies with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional RN nurse.
