Job summary

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is hiring a Patient Care Technician for the Cardiac Procedural & Surgical Unit in Norfolk, VA. This part-time, day-shift role covers two 12-hour shifts with rotating weekends and holidays.

The PCT will support daily living activities, monitor patients, perform labs and EKGs, and assist with cardiac post-operative care under RN direction.

Qualifications

• Education credentials as listed in the posting with multiple certification options.
• BLS certification expected within 90 days of hire.
• Healthcare experience is preferred within the last three years.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care and assist with activities of daily living.
• Take vital signs, assess patient condition, and report changes.
• Perform phlebotomy, EKG testing, specimen collection, and IV removal as needed.
• Assist with Foley catheter insertion/removal and ensure patient safety under RN guidance.

Overview:

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is hiring a Patient Care Technician (PCT) for the Cardiac Procedural and Surgical Unit . This is a Part Time, Day Shift (12-hour shift) position.

Hours:

7:00am to 7:00pm - Two 12-hour shifts (24 hours per week), with rotating weekends and holidays.

Department Overview:

This 24-bed unit provides high acuity cardiac care for pre and post cardiac surgery patients to include: bypass surgery, cardiac valve repairs/replacements, and other cardiac based procedures and treatments such as ICD's and permanent pacemakers. Additionally, this unit provides high acuity care to patients with cardiac arrhythmias, heart failure, and chest pain.

Patient Care Technician Responsibilities

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) provides patient care, supports independent and dependent activities of daily living, vital signs, mobility and ambulation, phlebotomy, point of care testing, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and foley catheter insertion and removal, and complies with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional RN nurse. Observes patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions and documents in a timely and accurate manner while reporting any change to the nurse or medical staff.

Qualifications

Education:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required) AND one of the following is required :
• Sentara Care Partner Certification Program, or
• Successful completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), or
• National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), or
• National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT), or
• Completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School, or
• Emergency Services to include EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic, or
• Current student enrolled in a clinical program (beyond prerequisites) having completed at least one semester of a Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Respiratory Therapist (RT) or Physical Therapist (PT) program, or
• Current work experience within the last three years as a Patient Care Technician (PCT) or Nursing Assistant.

Certifications/Licensure:

• AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire.

Experience:

• One year of health care experience (Preferred).
