OverviewUnder the supervision of a Registered Nurse, performs basic, routine duties related directly and indirectly to patient care.
Responsibilities- Obtain and Record Vital Signs (T, P, R, BP, Pulse oximetry)
- Perform Venipunctures
- Performs BGM (including Quality Controls)
- Provides IS coverage as assigned
- Assists patients with ADLs
- Correctly turn and position patients in bed and chair
- Specimens (Collection/ printing transmittals/sending to lab)
- Obtains and records intake and output and heights and weights
- Provides care for patients in restraints
- Communicates effectively with RNs and members of the health team regarding patient needs, requests and changes in patient’s condition.
- Promptly answers all call lights and patient requests
- Transports patients (as indicated for area)
- Performs hand off communication at bedside/chair with RNs and PCTs
- Keeps patient unit and non-patient unit clean
- Prepares area/unit with proper equipment for admissions, transfers and discharges
- Stocks and maintains supplies and equipment; reports needs to NM or designee
- Applies principles of infection control by following proper hand washing techniques and isolation precautions
- Makes frequent patient rounds to ensure patient safety and comfort
- Reports significant unit problems to charge nurse
- Uses 2 identifiers when delivering patient care
- Orients patient and family to the environment, unit and hospital procedures
- Performs errands and other related duties as required
- Obeys hospital dress code
Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program safety, environmental, and infection control standards.

QualificationsEducation:
High School Diploma or High School Equivalency required.
Successful completion of Certified Nursing Assistant Program, or New York State Certified Nursing Assistant Program, or EMS Training.
Pass Patient Care Technician (PCT) Test (75% or greater).
Experience:
Minimum of 1 year of experience in direct patient care.
Skills:
Technical skills required for patient care.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Good interpersonal skills.
Speaks, reads and writes English to the extent required by the position.
Pay RangeUSD $25.33 - USD $25.86 /Hr.
