UPMC Jameson's 2200 Medical Surgical Unit is hiring a full-time Nursing Assistant or Patient Care Technician!
Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) are essential in delivering patient care at UPMC. They work on patient care units, performing a variety of basic and advanced skills, collaborating closely with patients, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to enhance patient recovery and hospital experience.
Note: Final candidates will be assigned a job title within the career ladder based on their education, experience, and managerial discretion at the time of offer.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies. Report patient status changes to the RN and provide patient and family instruction under RN supervision. May apply, monitor, and remove patient restraints per physician or hospital protocol.
- Report equipment malfunctions, communicate effectively with other departments, and maintain professional relationships. Participate in universal unit activities such as responding to call lights, passing meal trays, and transporting patients.
- Receive feedback constructively, identify learning needs, and seek opportunities for skill development. Assist in planning and prioritizing tasks, participate in self-review, and engage in projects and committees.
- Communicate clearly with the healthcare team, demonstrate cultural sensitivity, and support workplace safety. Build productive relationships through accountability, enthusiasm, motivation, and commitment to patients and colleagues.
- For the Patient Care Technician - Senior role, achieve and maintain competency in advanced skills such as basic arrhythmia, complex wound care, 12-lead EKGs, and NG tube management, based on departmental needs.
- Perform standard nursing assistant duties including ADLs, point-of-care testing, vital signs, telemetry, and infection prevention measures. Also, perform dressing changes, restraint management, specimen collection, IV and Foley catheter removal, phlebotomy, and other assigned tasks.
- Adhere to system-wide competencies and behaviors. Perform additional duties as assigned, support departmental changes, and participate in quality initiatives.
- Follow all policies and procedures, including safety protocols and documentation standards. Transport cardiac-monitored patients and complete clerical duties as needed.
