UPMC East is hiring a full-time Patient Care Technician for the 3E Progressive Care unit. This role involves working36 hours per weekacrossthree 12-hour rotating shifts.
Responsibilities:
- Receive Feedback:Constructively accepts feedback and direction.
- Continuous Learning:Identifies learning needs and takes action to improve skills and performance.
- Communication:Establishes effective communication with other departments and maintains professional relationships.
- Patient Care:Assists with patient procedures, daily activities, and therapies. Provides feedback to RNs and reports changes in patient status.
- Equipment Management:Reports equipment malfunctions and communicates properly with relevant departments.
- Team Collaboration:Contributes to unit activities, supports new staff onboarding, and participates in department projects and committees.
- Core Duties:Performs essential nursing assistant tasks such as blood glucose monitoring, vital signs, specimen collection, and more. May also handle complex wound care, EKGs, and NG tube management based on department needs.
- Safety and Documentation:Adheres to safety policies, documents patient care accurately, and complies with hospital procedures.
- UPMC Initiatives:Supports UPMC Experience Initiatives like AIDET coaching and 90-day check-ins.

- High school diploma or GED.
- Must also meet one of the following:
- 1 year of general healthcare experience, OR
- 6 months as a UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA with PCT competency achieved within 120 days of hire/transfer/promotion (for those with less than 1 year of experience), OR
- Enrollment in a PT/OT/PA program or related healthcare training program with completion of at least one clinical rotation, OR
- Completion of a bachelor’s degree in a health sciences field.
- Successful completion of the UPMC Patient Care Technician class.
- Successful completion of eRecord training.
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic certification — or current enrollment in an EMT/Paramedic program — preferred.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances
- CPR (AHA-compliant) required within 30 days of hire (includes both didactic and skills demonstration).
- ACLS preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required.
- Act 34 Clearance required.
